Obituary
PIKE, Dr. Malcolm B. of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was 70 years old. Malcolm Bruce Pike was born on May 31, 1944 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Maurice and Mae (Addelson) Pike. He married Diane Schulz in January 23, 1983; she survives him. Malcolm graduated from Arthur Hill High School with the Class of 1962. He graduated from Ferris State University, and then went to the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago. After earning his doctorate's degree in 1971, he opened his practice in Saginaw in July 1972. He touched many lives with his practice. He was on the Board of Directors for the March of Dimes, Past President of the Temple B'nai Israel, active in community service, especially Diabetic Foot Care Seminars, the Michigan State Podiatric Association, the South East Michigan Podiatric Association, and the President of Pikeville Self Storage. He had a love of automobiles—especially street racing. Most of all, he enjoyed his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife of 31 years, J.D. "Diane"; two daughters: Wendy Schulz and Heather Grunwell; three grandchildren; Dalton Wendling, Jessica Smith, Layla Schulz; brother, Allan (Marney) Pike; brother-in-law, Pastor DeWayne (Carla) Dean; sister-in-law, Billie Carole; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Dr. Pike was a co-founder of the Sunday Evening Philosophical Society along with his good friend, David Oberschmidt. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Ford Rolland Sargent, IV; brother, Lawrence Pike; and brother-in-law, Jerome Dean. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice of Michigan for their merciful care, as well his office staff who have served him faithfully for many years. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home on Thursday, June 26, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., as well as on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. SERVICE: Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2014 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd (off State). Janet Kelman and Pastor DeWayne Dean will officiate. Cremation will follow. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Emmaus House, 733 S. 14th St., Saginaw MI 48601. I opened up practice with Malcolm. I was his first Employee well that's not true because his Mother Mae was working with him. She was a lovely Lady. He hired me through Arthur Hill High School's Coop program. I was a junior in high school. 1972. I was with him for 4-5 years. I became a Podiatric Assistant. One of my memories was my first Airplane ride to a conference in Chicago. I will never forget. He was very good with his patients. Excellent with children. Malcolm you will be missed. Dear JD and Family,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Pike's death. As an employee of his for 13 years, I learned first hand of his kind and caring nature. He was compassionate and treated each of his patients with respect. He was a pleasure to work for and it was my privilege to have known him.
