Arthur Sonefeld

SONEFELD, Arthur Joseph of Saginaw Township, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2014. He was 97 years old. Arthur J. Sonefeld was born on October 29, 1916 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Anthony and Michelena (Gutowski) Sonefeld. He married Sybil F. Jack on June 5, 1951 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She preceded him in death on August 31, 1992. Arthur was a graduate of Ss. Peter & Paul High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Engineers during World War II from 1942-1945. Arthur served in the Pacific Theatre assembling Higgins Boats in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines. Arthur was a founding member of St. Stephen Catholic Church. He was employed by Saginaw Steering Gear, retiring with over 30 years of service. He enjoyed reading and was a meticulous gardener. Surviving are one daughter and her spouse, Sybil M. and Gary A. Paquette of Saginaw; and Arthur's constant companion his dog, Lucy. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Saginaw Senior Care & Rehab Center and Heartland Hospice for all their care and support. FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 2014 at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1310 Malzahn. Rev. Fr. Steven Gavit will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
