Walter LaPlante

LaPlante, Walter W. of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Hoyt Nursing and Rehab Centre. He was 85 years old. Walter was born on April 27, 1928 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to the late Walter Vincent and Evelyn Ann (Larson) LaPlante. He married Jocelyn Loyster on September 1, 1951 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan; she preceded him in death on January 22, 2014. Walter graduated from Clarkston High School. Later, he attended Central Michigan, graduating with a B.A. in Business. He also proudly served in the United States Army Marching Band, honorably serving from 1946 until his discharge in 1948. Further, he enjoyed being a member of the Shriners, golfing, gathering with friends, watching Detroit Tigers baseball and Michigan State University basketball and football. Surviving are two sons: Zachary LaPlante of Rochester Hills, Garth (Peggy) LaPlante of Saginaw; two daughters: Michelle Flynn of Knoxville, TN, Melissa (Duane) Furtaw of Spring Hill, TN; seven grandchildren: Heather LaPlante of Sun Prairie, WI, Carolyn (John) Lauckner of East Lansing, Jaime Furtaw and Michelle Furtaw both of Spring Hill, TN, Sean Flynn of Knoxville, TN, Renee (CJ) Szafir of Milwaukee, WI, and Dayna LaPlante of Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jocelyn; sister, Katherine White; and son-in-law, Paul Flynn. FUNERAL: A Memorial Service will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, March 31, 2014 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Pastor Paul Hinz will officiate. Cremation has taken place. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit at the funeral home on Monday, March 31, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
