Obituary
PETERSON, Amiel "Pete" Wayne of Saginaw, Michigan passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Health Source of Saginaw. He was 86 years young. Amiel "Pete" W. Peterson was born on October 26, 1927 to the late Albert and Velma (Robinson) Peterson. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth "Bette" Hackett on August 9, 1952 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant. Pete graduated from Greenville High School and also attended Central Michigan University, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps from 1946 to 1947, on Okinawa, Japan. Pete was employed by Great American Insurance Company until his retirement in 1985. He was a faithful member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, St. Stephen Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #1492. Pete enjoyed camping, sailing, music and being known as "Mr. Fix it". Above all, "Grandpa" loved and cherished his family. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth "Bette" Peterson of Saginaw; four daughters: Susan Anderson of TX, Margaret Peterson, M.D. of CA, Kathryn (John) Zemanek of FL and Teresa (John) Baker of N.C.; 15 grandchildren: Allene and Blythe Anderson; Jason, Patrick, Erin, Shannon, and Nicholas Smythe; John Cole and Colleen Zemanek; Logan, Lee and Maxim Mondol; Josh and Kyle Baker and William Lancaster: and three great-grandchildren: Emme and Noah Frank Smythe and Braylon Plank. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Pete was preceded in death by two daughers: Janet Mondol and Sharon Smythe, and two brothers and one sister. FUNERAL: A Memorial Service will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, February 17, 2014 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Rev. Fr. Randy Kelly will officiate. Honoring Pete's wishes cremation has taken place. MILITARY: Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of VFW Post 1859. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 4:00 p.m. Please share your thoughts and memories with the family at the funeral home or through www.deislerfuneralhome.com.

He was a good man willing to help and lend a hand in any way he could particularly if it involved fixing something. When he would ask you to "go to the van and get my doctors bag" you knew something was about to get fixed and it would probably involve you. So I'm sure he is still standing at the pearly gates waiting to get in while St. Peter gets his "doctors bag" so he can fix the damn hinge that's coming loose. Perhaps this thought eases the sadness just a little knowing he is no longer here to lend a hand or fix things and he will be missed by all. Love you old man rest in peace.
