Obituary
GROLLIMUND, Velma M. of Saginaw, Michigan passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014 at Luther Manor of Saginaw with her family by her side. She was 88 years old. Velma M. Iteen was born on June 4, 1925 in Flint, Michigan to the late Chester and Myrtle (Bearinger) Iteen. She married the love of her life, John T. Grollimund on April 29th, 1945 in Pueblo, Colorado. He preceded her in death on February 9, 2009. Velma graduated from Flint Central High School in 1943 where she enjoyed playing the saxophone for the high school band. During the early years of WWII, she worked in a factory at AC Spark Plug Electric where she helped to build airplanes and test fired machine guns. Later Velma was trained as an OBGYN nurse. After raising her children, she was employed by Citizens Bank as a teller for 10 years. Velma enjoyed playing cards and was a member of a bridge club for many years. At Christmas time she loved to bake and would make as many as 20 different types of cookies to share with family, friends and neighbors. Velma will be remembered as an excellent homemaker and loving mother. Left to cherish her memory are two sons and two daughters: Judie (Jim) Frey of Ennis, MT, John (Nancy) Grollimund of Brant, Jay (Dora) Grollimund of Raleigh, NC, and Janet (Mike) Fenton of Mt. Pleasant, MI; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; a brother, George (Elsie) Iteen of CA; two special nieces: Julie (Paul) Maxwell, Jill (Dr. Larry) Loewen; and a special relative, Clarence "Max" Maxium. She was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Bowden. FUNERAL: Funeral Services will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at First United Methodist Church, 4790 Gratiot Rd. Rev. Kathryn S. Snedeker will officiate. Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 24, 2014 at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint, MI. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd (off State) on Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Hospice of Michigan. We feel so very fortunate to have had such a wonderful aunt in your mom and grandma and we will cherish our memories of her loving and caring ways. She was blessed with the beautiful family she had in all of you. Love you all.

I love that photo of Aunt Velma. I loved growing up with Aunt Velma, Uncle Jack, Judie, John, Jay and Janet. Our Dads both named Jack and had the same birthday! What great memories we have of holidays, special occasions, all the time we all spent at Grandma and Grandpa Iteen's house! And of course the TREE! I feel so lucky to have all those memories forever in my heart ! One special memory I have of Aunt Velma is when she was driving Janet and I to Girl Scout camp. A 2 week long camp - I could never have done that without Janet ! But that's the first time I remember Aunt Velma and her 'lead foot' driving ! I loved teasing her about it on and off for years - in fact I drive with a bit of the lead foot as well. Love and hugs to all the Grollimunds and your families. Your Mom will be loved forever and always missed.

I am so sorry for the loss of your mother, sister, grandmother (Daniel Grollimund is my son-in-law), aunt and friend. She was a very sweet woman and I am sure she is with the angels. Sincerely, Connie Cantu
