GAERTNER, Richard "Dick" of Carrollton, Michigan went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 2, 2013. He was 83 years old, an Army veteran, and had enjoyed a full and wonderful life. A Professional Grandpa and a devoted U of M fan; he enjoyed a good nap, reading, and rocking on the backyard swing. Nobody loved a good backyard Fourth of July fireworks show like Dick. His spirit lives on in his two children: Kris and Rich; six grandchildren: Sarah, Haley, Riley, Richie, Ian and Natasha. Come join Dick's loving wife, Jean, for a Memorial Celebration at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on his birthday, December 28, 2013 at Bruce's Bar, 2721 Carrollton Rd., Carrollton, MI, 48604. We will be having a drink in his honor. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Humane Society of Saginaw County, 123 S. Niagara St., Saginaw, MI, 48602. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). So sorry to hear about Richard...have known all you guys since my school days with my best friend Robert (Brandimore). Chet, Eva, Jeannie, Bob, Dick...think of all of (you) them often. I remember fishing up at the cottage w/Dick lots of times. And then there came Karen...and my Mary Lou...and well, time takes it's toll on all of us. My best to you Jeannie and your kids. I hope to make it Dec. 28th. if at all possible. Terry Wirth.
