Obituary
MONROE, Daniel Lee of Des Moines, IA, formerly of Saginaw, Michigan passed away on Friday, May 31, 2013. Daniel L. Monroe was born on October 24, 1939 to Clyde and Josephine Monroe in Coleman Michigan. He graduated High School from Coleman High in 1957 and in 1961 from Ferris State University with degree in Accounting. Dan married the love of his life, Sharon Elizabeth Philp on August 12, 1961. He began his career with General Motors in 1961, where he worked in accounting in both Saginaw, and Detroit, Michigan. He then took the Business Manager position at WNEM TV5 in Saginaw, Michigan, which began his 33 year career with Meredith Corporation Broadcast Group. Throughout his career with Meredith, Dan served in several positions, and loved every minute of his time there. He retired as Vice President of Broadcast in 2001, in Des Moines Iowa, where he lived from 1984-2011. Dan loved sports, having played varsity sports at Coleman High, playing softball for the WNEM TV5 all-stars, volunteering his time with the Saginaw Township North Little League, and D.D Eisenhower High School Athletic Boosters. He was an avid golfer, and spent time watching his grandchildren's activities, as well as his lifelong favorites, Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers, and Detroit Lions. He is survived by his wife, Sharon of 51 years; a son, Mike Monroe and his wife, Sue (Waukee, IA), grandchildren: Alie and Tori, and great grandson, Greyson; a son, Scott Monroe and Amy Robinson (Urbandale, IA); a daughter, Shelley Sanchez and husband, Joe (Freeland, MI), grandchildren: Ashley and Bryce, and step grandchildren: Lauren, Joseph, and Amanda. VISITATION: A Memorial Visitation to Celebrate Dan's life will take place at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd (off State) on Thursday, June 6, 2013 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of Michigan, 3995 Fashion Square Blvd. Ste 1, Saginaw MI, 48603. Sharon, our condolences to you and your family. We have many fond memories of Dan dating back to his student days at CHS. And of the time he helped me on the milk route. He had a positive outlook on life and was a pleasure to be around. It was good to see both at the class reunion last year.

To our dear friend Sharon and her family,
We are still in shock from learing of Dan's passing. We just wanted to let you know how very sad we are that we are not able to be with you during this very difficult time. We will always remember the many good times we spent together over the years. The good meals we shared, card games, sporting events, travel and just sitting around talking and sharing a few laughs. One time in particular that comes to mind during a conversation we were having about how the kids today wanted all the expensive clothing with the fancy labels they had on the pockets of their jeans. Dan decided that maybe we could go to Sears and purchase the cheapest jeans money could buy then make little tags that said "Monroeski's" and sew them on the pockets. They would become a big fad and everyone would want some. So funny, I still get a chuckle when I think about that.
I have been trying to get your new phone number, not sure if you are up to talking though. As you know Don has been quite ill and having a hard time of it while on the Chemo which goes on til September. We hope we will be able to get to Iowa, time will tell. Just know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. May God look over you and hold you in his arms and comfort you as you go though the difficult days that lie ahead. We will be thinking of you.
