Robert Murphy

MURPHY, Robert Donald of Saginaw passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013. He was 88 years old. Robert Donald Murphy was born on October 29, 1924 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Frank and Mary Murphy. He married Virginia Brandel on September 18, 1943; she preceded him in death in 2007. He proudly served in the Army Air Force during WWII from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He then began his career with PM C&O, now CSX Railroad, retiring in 1979 after 33 years of service. He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, American Legion Post #439, and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 4. In his spare time, he enjoyed hanging out with his friends and watching television. Surviving are daughter, Judith Tyburski; three sons, David, James, and Ronald Murphy; five grandchildren, Ann, Maria, and Mark Tyburski, Melissa Murphy, and Mitchell Murphy; and three grandsons, Tyler and Devin Tyburski and Christian Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 64 years, Virginia; and brother, Herb Murphy. FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 6400 McCarty Rd. Rev. Fr. James R. Carlson will officiate. Entombment will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #439. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State) on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., as well as on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
