George Blakely

Blakely, George William passed away, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center, age 90 years. George was born October 15, 1922 to the late Thomas and Mary (Fealko) Blakely. He was married to Betty Musilek on October 11, 1947; she preceded him in death on August 1, 1993. He graduated from Saginaw High School in 1940. He then proudly served his country in the United States Army, during World War II. While in the U.S. Army, he served in Battery B-602 Glider Field Artillery in the Aleutian Island, Italy and France, where he was twice wounded. He was then employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years before retiring in 1989. George was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Surviving are three children, Vicki and husband, Donald Geweniger, Patricia and husband, David Bacon, and Thomas Blakely; sisters, Dorothy David and Jean and husband, Will Fanger; brother, Arland and wife, Gloria Blakely; and sister-in-law, Louise Blakely. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 45 years, Betty; and brothers, Jim and Robert Blakely. FUNERAL- Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Reverend Rob Richards will officiate. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post #1859. Private burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. VISITIATION- George's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. MEMORIALS- Those desiring to plan an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Volunteer Services-135, Aleda E.
