SOWULEWSKI, Marie Cecile of Saginaw, Michigan passed away peacefully after a life long battle with diabetes on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Covenant HealthCare - Cooper. She was 58 years of age. Marie C. Stickney was born on November 27, 1953 in Bad Axe, Michigan to the late Alvin and Irma (Stein) Stickney. Marie was a 1971 graduate of Bad Axe High School. Marie and Greg Sowulewski were married on May 3, 1975 and from that union came two sons. She had been employed by the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw and Second National Bank, and in 1981 graduated from Delta College with an associate degree in Business Studies in Management. For the rest of her professional life she was self-employed as an accountant and income tax specialist for many people. Marie was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Marie enjoyed sports and was active in basketball, softball, and bowling. She also enjoyed music, especially French Acadian fiddle music and played guitar during her high school years. As wife and mother, she took meticulous care of home and yard, and tended a large and abundant garden. Through her life she tackled each day with high energy, strong will, and a unique sense of humor that brought joy to those around her. Surviving are two sons; Brian Sowulewski, Jason Sowulewski and two sisters; Nancy (Jim) Block and Eileen (Pete) Manza. Also surviving is a dear friend and caregiver, Elaine Kennedy; nine nieces and nephews; two aunts and many cousins. The family wishes to thank the staff members and caregivers at Community Village and Covenant HealthCare for their care and concern for their dear mother and sister, Marie. FUNERAL - Marie's Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 6400 McCarty Rd. Rev. Fr. James Carlson will officiate. In accordance with Marie's wishes cremation has taken place. VISITATION - Friends are welcome to visit with Marie's family on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. Mass. MEMORIALS - In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to honor Marie with a memorial to American Diabetes Association, Community Village, or St. John Vianney Catholic Church. To Marie's family, I am saddened to read of Marie's passing. We bowled on the same league at Stardust for years and I remember when she adopted her sons and I had also babysat a few times for them when they were real little. For Marie's family: When I heard of Marie's passing I was deeply saddened, Marie was a bright light and I had many inspiring talks with her. She always pushed me to do better, encouraged me to reach for my dreams. She had the most amazing laugh and it made everybody around her laugh out loud, too. She put a smile on my face every time I saw her and I will always remember her spit-fire spirit. She inspired me to draw again, and I did... I will be forever grateful to Marie for her advice and kind words. I am humbled to have been friends with such a strong, beautiful, and beloved woman. May her memory live on forever in our hearts.

My deepest sympathy to Marie's family. We bowled together in the same league for years and she was always happy and put a smile on your face. Although our paths haven't crossed in years, I will always remember her. May she rest in peace.

My deepest sympathy to Marie's family. I regret I will not be there Saturday to rejoice in Maries life, I have known here for a while and will miss her. I will remember my wedding with her in it and the trips to her cabin and the fun we had. The Friday lunches at Hills and patty flemings.

Marie's position at the Diocese of Saginaw during her employment there was as my Secretary while I was the Chancellor of the Diocese. I remember her as being very efficient, prompt, pleasant, and upbeat. She was of great assistance to me in the fullfillment of my responsibilities. I continue to be grateful and have already celebrated Mass for her soul on the occasion of her entrance into eternal life. May the Lord have welcomed her into his Heavenly Kingdom!

I'm saddened to hear of Marie's passing. My deepest sympathy goes out to her family and friends, especially her son Brian. Your mom was such a kind lady. Although I had not seen her in many years, I will never forget the times she had me over to the house for swimming in the summer or transported us to and from drivers ed classes.
Remember to cherish the memories of all the good times you had with your mom. Your memories of her will live on forever.
