Mary Vawter

VAWTER, Mary Patricia "Pat", of Saginaw passed away with her children at her side on April 6, 2011. Age 76 years. She was the daughter of Charles E. and Rebecca R. Haymaker of West Virginia and sister of Charles E. Haymaker. Jr. Pat was survived by one son, Dr. Robert L. Vawter (and his wife, Dr. Maryann Cater) from W.VA; two daughters: Jane A. Vawter of Saginaw and Nancy Stornes (and her husband, Tore) of NJ; one grandson, Erik K. Stornes and one granddaughter, Mary Patricia Stornes. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert W. Vawter and her son John W. Vawter who passed away on April 3, 2011. Pat worked for Macy's department store for 33 years as an Estee Lauder make-up consultant. She retired at age 74. She volunteered every Sunday in the gift shop at Healthsource where her son, John, was a resident for the past four years. She was the first female Cub Scout den leader in this area and she was a lifetime Garden Club member. Pat was a member of Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. She also volunteered in the Saginaw General ER (now Covenant Harrison) for many years. Pat's greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. She loved talking to and helping people along the way in life with a word of encouragement or a small gift to brighten their day. She was never too busy to take the time to listen to people and offer them advice, an opinion or a shoulder to cry on. Her children's favorite quote was, "if your mother can't tell you, who can?" A quote from Mother Teresa defined how our mother lived her life, "We can do no great things; only small things with great love." FUNERAL: A Memorial Service honoring Pat will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2011 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
