Mark passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026 at Covenant Medical Center - Cooper. He was 68 years old. Mark A. Brethauer was born on July 27, 1957 in Saginaw to Clarence and Mary Brethauer. He attended Douglas MacArthur High School, and at the young age of 16 started working at the Royal Palm. Mark was passionate about food and his culinary career working throughout Saginaw at Bill Knapps, Delphines, Roy's Steakhouse and Zehnders. He received many awards and recognition, for his culinary and baking skills, including being named America's Hottest Chef. In 1994, Mark moved to Bloomington Indiana where he met, fell in love and married Loretta. They returned to Saginaw together to work at the Horizons Conference Center, and he was instrumental in opening the Patisserie. Mark always found great joy in a new challenge, so Loretta and Mark opened and operated Angel B's Bakery in Bloomington, Indiana. Together they spent many wonderful years together, until her passing in August of 2024. He loved to spend time outdoors, especially up north camping, hiking and kayaking. Mark's work would revolve around his three grandchildren, and nothing brought him greater joy than taking them on trips and spending time with them. During his quiet time at home, his cats, Colby Jack and Brie, would keep him entertained. Mark also enjoyed playing his guitar and listened to classic rock.

Mark is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Taryn and John Reyna; grandchildren: Alexander, Hope and Mitchell; his mother, Mary Pascoe; he is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends and dedicated co-workers.

Mark was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta; son, Mark Brethauer; brother, Ronald Brethauer; father, Clarence Brethauer; and step-father, Sidney Pascoe.

Throughout his life, Mark carried himself with dignity and grace, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and steadfast resolve. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will endure in the hearts of those who knew him.

Mark Brethauer’s journey on this earth has ended, but the warmth of his spirit remains timeless. In keeping with Mark's wishes, cremation has taken place and his family will celebrate his life together with a private service.
