Obituary

Spaedt, Sue Ellen M.

Saginaw, Michigan

Loving daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, partner, and friend passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, with her family by her side at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Florida. She was 76 years old.

Sue Ellen Marie Wahl was born on July 29, 1949, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Clayton and Catherine (Haskin) Wahl. She married Duane R. Spaedt on May 10, 1969. Sue graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1967 and continued her education at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, graduating in 1971 with an Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene. She was employed as a dental hygienist by Dr. Jennifer Schau, DDS, and retired after 40 years of dedicated service. Sue also served as an Executive Director with Pampered Chef for many years. She was an active member of St. Dominic Parish – S.s. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where she faithfully served as a Eucharistic Minister and volunteered at the parish food pantry.

Sue was a devoted caregiver and a true joy-giver, always putting others before herself. In keeping with her generous spirit, she gave the gift of life through organ donation, saving three lives of people she never met. She will be remembered for her warm smile and her love of conversation. Sue was a fantastic golfer who also enjoyed gardening and took great pride in caring for her yard. An avid University of Michigan sports fan, she loved watching college football and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. She was an exceptional cook who cherished bringing family and friends together for delicious meals filled with laughter. Above all, she was a loving and faithful wife devoted to her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are her children: David (Piper) Spaedt, Jeff (Alicia) Spaedt, and Melinda (Michael) McGovern; grandchildren: Samuel Spaedt, Emily Spaedt, Hunter Spaedt, Nick Percival, and Kalee Percival; great-grandchild, Adelyn Vargas; mother, Catherine Stanley; brother, Gary (JoAnn) Wahl; sisters, Nancy (Tom) Allen, Cathy (Tom) Rettenmaier, and Patricia Rose (Chris) Boswell; her life partner, John Carter; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Sue Ellen was preceded in death by her father, Clayton Wahl, and her husband of 46 years, Duane R. Spaedt.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Sarasota Memorial Hospital and the LifeLink Team for their kind and compassionate care.

I am so saddened by Sue’s death. I worked with Sue at Dr Reed and Dr Roeser’s office, and Sue was in my wedding in 1974. Duane and Sue were dear friends. Although we were not close through the past few years, it was always fun when we would run into each other while out shopping or dining.. she will be missed💖
