KURN, Nancy M.

Saginaw, Michigan

Our beloved sister, aunt, cousin and dear friend passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper, surrounded by her family and friends. She was 62 years old. Nancy Martha Kurn was born on May 14, 1963 in Saginaw to Marilyn J. (Braun) and Dr. Samuel P. Kurn. Nancy graduated early from Freeland High School in 1980, she continued her education at Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. She received her Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. She received her Master of Laws in Taxation from University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida and her MBA from Northwood University in Midland, Michigan. She was a well-respected attorney in Michigan and Florida and was licensed as a CPA in Michigan. Nancy practiced law for 30 years. She was a member of and past Board Member of the Northeastern Michigan Estate Planning Council as well as the Freeland Area Chambers of Commerce. Nancy had several articles published in Divorce Magazine. Throughout her life she loved her work, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends, especially her nieces and nephews. Nancy loved traveling including international travel through Europe and Canada. She also enjoyed poker, Euchre, riding rollercoasters, visiting Dow Gardens, skiing, antiquing, visiting National Parks, landmarks, museums, attending the Vancouver Olympics and playing laser tag with her nieces and nephews.

Nancy is survived by her brothers: Mark (Ellen) Kern, Jeffrey Kurn and Dr. David (Olga) Kurn; six nieces and nephews: Dr. Heidi, Steven, Michael, Sara, Kristina, and Spencer; aunts, Maryann Preisinger and Lois Braun.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Samuel and Marilyn Kurn; many aunts and uncles.

FUNERAL: Funeral Services will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603. Pastor Arlyn Willett will officiate with burial to follow at Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery. In honor of Nancy, the family requests that you wear a touch of pink, Nancy’s favorite color, to her service.

VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m.

When I first met Nancy 2.5 years ago I wasn’t sure how it would go. We couldn’t be anymore more opposite of each other. I started by going to help her 1x a week and eventually turning into 7 days a week until she passed. I have always believed we meet each person not by accident but on purpose. Very quickly we learned each others likes and dislikes. Each disalike on Nancy’s end opened my eyes to a different point of view. We both learned patience over frustration. I believe that when we are helping someone who is suffering it can help our pain too. In the time of meeting Nancy she had things happening to her body daily. I know everyday was a battle. Being with her every day she became a very dear friend. She met and knew my family. 1.5 year ago my daughter Eve was diagnosed with MS. I took a week off because I was at UofM with her. As soon as she was discharged I went right to Nancy’s. Not because I had to work but because I needed to see her and talk to her. She always made me feel better. My daughter’s diagnosis also brought Nancy and Eve together. Even though Nancy was suffering and struggling everyday. She was still able to make us all feel loved. As she said that’s what friends are for. For the last 4 months after her mother passed away I had every Saturday morning with Nancy. Every Saturday we spent catching up on everything and having a good cry. I loved hearing her stories about skiing with her brothers and her trips to Europe. Our love for Led Zepplin was one of our first things that we realized we both loved. I will miss her everyday. But I know she’s free and at peace with her mom and dad again Love you forever Nancy! I was deeply saddened to hear of Nancy’s passing who I first met during my exchange year in Freeland, where she was both our neighbor and a close friend of my family. During my later visits to Freeland, I met her again on several occasions. I was always impressed by her remarkable knowledge, her strong determination, and, the genuine enthusiasm with which she approached her work and responsibilities. She was a person of great presence, clarity, and inner strength—someone whose character left a lasting impression on everyone around her.
