Mary McNish

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday evening, August 4, 2026, at her residence. She was 71 years old. Mary Elizabeth Rushman was born October 19, 1954, in Highland Park, Michigan, to Warren and Frances (Smith) Rushman. She married Arthur McNish on May 22, 1982, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Saginaw, Michigan. Mary attended Wayne State University and Central Michigan University, where she earned her Master’s Degree. She was employed by Covenant HealthCare as a Registered Dietitian, retiring after 40 years of dedicated service. Mary was a faithful member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church for many years and was also a member of the American Dietetic Association.

Mary had a love for baking, especially chocolate chip cookies. She could make the most delicious chocolate chip cookies, which she enjoyed eating and sharing with those she loved. She also enjoyed cross-country skiing and traveling, visiting all 50 states and delighting in the beauty of the scenery along the way. Mary loved golfing as well, playing in couples’ leagues with her husband and women’s leagues with her daughter. Above all, Mary cherished the time she spent with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Her family was the greatest joy of her life.

Surviving are her husband, Arthur McNish; children, Rebecca Frances (Dennis Locks) McNish and David (Kimberly) McNish; grandchildren, Oliver and Sebastian McNish; siblings, Cathy (Gene) Leonardi and John (Barb) Rushman; sister-in-law, Susan Rushman; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Frances; her older brother, Frederick Rushman; and her nephew, James Leonardi.

VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Monday, August 10, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

FUNERAL SERVICE: A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State Street, Saginaw, MI 48603. Rev. Fr. Steven M. Gavit will officiate.
