Obituary
Rolland “Pete” Darling, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026, just shy of his 100th birthday. Born on August 23, 1926, Pete lived a long and fulfilling life, devoted to his family and his church friends (former Kochville United Methodist), and the community he loved.
Pete was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce M. Darling, and three of their children. Rolland E. Darling Jr., Gerald F. Darling, and a baby girl at birth, despite these profound losses, Pete’s spirit remained unbroken, serving as a pillar of strength and resilience for his family. He is survived by his children, Rick (Chris) Darling, Daniel (Cindy) Darling, Janis (Robert) Skidmore, and Dale (Maureen) Brown who continue to honor his legacy through their own lives and families. Pete’s life was further blessed with 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, each of whom he cherished deeply.
Throughout his life, Pete was known for his gentle nature, unwavering kindness, and his ability to find joy in the simplest of moments. His laughter and wisdom were gifts to all who knew him; his legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of calling him family or friend.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to a very special friend, Karen and the compassionate staff at Healthsource of Saginaw for their dedicated care and support during Pete’s final days.
While he may no longer walk among us, the love and lessons Pete shared will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in eternal peace, reunited with Joyce and their children, surrounded by the boundless love he so richly deserves.
In keeping with Pete’s wishes, cremation has taken place and his family is planning a memorial service for a later date.
