Obituary
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He was 86 years old. Richard was born August 11, 1940, in Estey, Michigan, one of eighteen children born to Joseph and Richarda (Avila) Torrez. He graduated from Pinconning High School in 1958. Richard proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. In 1967, he married Josephine Flores in Saginaw, Michigan; she survives him. Richard was employed by General Motors, retiring after several years of dedicated service.
Richard loved being outdoors and took great pride in maintaining his beautiful yard. He cherished the time he spent with his many friends, often showing his love through his cooking and BBQ. He enjoyed spending summer days on his boat, as well as playing pool, horseshoes, and guitar. Above all, Richard loved having his family and friends gathered together, enjoying good food, good company, and an adult beverage. He especially cherished the time he spent with his special grandson, Blake, creating memories and enjoying their time together. Richard will be remembered for the many memories and good times he shared with those he loved.
Surviving are his children, Richard Torrez, Tammy (Don) Wilson, Andrew Torrez, and Brian Torrez; grandchildren, Donnie, Kyle (Samantha), Anjela (Bryan), Andrew (Reahlyn), Kara (Baily), and Blake; great-grandchildren, Ahdriana, Aliyah, Toni Rae, and Zendaya; siblings, Terry Beale, Mary (Dave) Winslow, David Torrez, Tom Torrez, Vickie Sanchez, and Danny Torrez; and many cherished friends, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Anthony Torrez; his grandson, Tyler Torrez; and several brothers and sisters.
VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
FUNERAL SERVICE: A Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 27, 2026 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Rev. Fr. Robert Byrne will officiate. A committal service will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Saginaw. Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Air Force and American Legion # 439.
