Berg, William H. Sr. “Bill”

Our beloved father, grandfather, uncle and dear friend passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at Toni and Trish Hospice House in Auburn. He was 86 years old. William H. Berg was born on January 30, 1940, to Harold P. and Judy Mae (Molda) Berg. His father passed away during World War II, and his stepfather, Charles D. Kinkle, became a very important and influential part of Bill’s life.

Bill worked at Miles Machinery for more than 40 years before retiring in 2002. He married Carol Marie Eurich on February 13, 1960, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Saginaw. Together they built a life filled with family, adventure and countless memories. Carol preceded him in death on May 17, 2013.

Bill had a deep love for the great outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but for Bill, being outdoors was about much more than the activity itself, it was about the people beside him, the stories shared, the lessons learned and the memories made. He especially loved hunting geese and ducks. He loved the anticipation of an early morning, watching the sunrise over the water, sharing snacks, conversation in the blind and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow hunters. He proudly kept a hunting journal and treasured his collection of trophy goose bands on his lanyard, each one carrying a story and a memory.

Perhaps Bill’s greatest gift was his willingness to teach. He shared his knowledge of hunting, fishing, the outdoors and the practical skills of life with anyone willing to learn. He had a way of passing along lessons through stories, experiences and sometimes simply by showing someone how to do something.

Bill is survived by his son, William H. (Ann) Berg, Jr.; daughter, JoAnne (Thom) Kelley; granddaughter, Chelsea Ann Berg; a dear friend, Donna Felton; nephew: Daniel Berg; and niece, Chris Dilts; half-brother, Harold (Lynn) Berg; many other extended family and dear hunting family.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, brother, Duane (Patricia) Berg; and a nephew, Michael Berg.

In keeping with Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place. His family will gather to celebrate his life from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603. Rev. Scott Kroener will officiate.
