Obituary
BUSH, Gary Duane of Carrollton, MI passed away peacefully on Saturday, December, 6, 2014 at St. Mary's of Michigan, Saginaw. He was 72 years old. Gary Duane Bush was born on April 29, 1942 in Clinton, Iowa to the late Clifford "Red" and Viola (Birdsley) Bush. He married Yoshiko Enwright on June 23, 1979 in Clinton, Iowa, she survives him. Following high school, Gary enlisted with the U.S. Navy, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War. His journey continued into a career with the Navy as an Engineer serving at RTC San Diego, USS Midway, USS Ranger, NAS Alameda, USS Biddle, USS California, USS Nashville, RTC Great Lakes, USS McKee, USS Barber County and NRC Saginaw. During Gary's career he crossed the equator many times traveling to fascinating places including the Philippines, Japan, and Australia. He was a highly decorated Senior Chief Hull Maintenance Technician, retiring after 22 years. Gary lived his life by true Navy standards, "Non sibi sed patriae" (Not self but country). Following retirement, he continued his service with the U.S. Naval Reserve Center in Saginaw and V.F.W. Post #1859 in Carrollton. Gary's passion was hunting for deer, and other small game, fishing for bass and spending time with his fellow servicemen. Gary is survived by his wife, Yoshiko; four children: Vickie Lynn Bush, Irene, Billy and Michael Enwright; two grandsons: Jason and Shane; and his sister, Jackie (Bill) Overson. SERVICE: According to Gary's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service and Military Honors will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 15, 2014 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd., (off State) under the auspices of V.F.W. Post #1859 and the U.S. Navy. Gary will then be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery with his fellow servicemen. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to V.F.W. Gary was an awesome man. I worked with him at St. Mary's and also knew him through my brother-in-law Rick Preston. My prayers go out to him family.

It was my privilege to know Gary, not only through working with him at St Mary's, but also serving with him on the Board of Directors of the Saginaw County Veterans Memorial Plaza. I've spent many hours in Gary's company. He was a huge asset to the Plaza. Gary was a man of action, but he also was a pleasure to talk with. He will be sorely missed.
