Jerome Burns

BURNS, Jerome E. of Saginaw Township, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at James E. Cartwright Care Center. Jerome "Jerry" E. Burns was born July 3, 1933 to Mary Jane (Mack) and Peter C. Burns in Port Huron, Michigan. Jerry graduated from St. Mary's High School before fulfilling his childhood dream of attending the University of Notre Dame where he graduated in 1955. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force where he served as a jet fighter pilot until his honorable discharge as a Captain. After leaving the Air Force, Jerry attended the University of Michigan Law School and received the degree of Juris Doctor in 1964. He began his career as an attorney with the Saginaw Prosecutor's Office where he rose to the position of Chief Assistant Prosecutor. He then went into private practice and was honored in 2010 for being an attorney for over 50 years. Jerry was predeceased by his parents and nine brothers and sisters. He leaves his wife of over 50 years, Sue, and three sons: Jeb (Erin) Burns, Timothy (Carrie) Burns and Peter Burns. He also leaves his four grandchildren: Thomas and Conor Burns and Spence and Sophia Burns, who thought of him as the best storyteller ever. MEMORIAL MASS: A Memorial Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 2711 Mackinaw Street, 48602. Rev. Fr. William R. Taylor will officiate. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with Jerry's family at the church on Saturday, October 5, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to James E. Cartwright Care Center. Arrangements have been entrusted to Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State).
