SCHMIDT, Mildred K. of Saginaw, Michigan passed away December 28, 2012 at St. Mary's of Michigan. Age 89 years. Mildred I. Kunz was born on August 24, 1923 to the late Otto and Irva (Soper) Kunz. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School, Class of 1941. Mildred was employed by Bell Telephone for five years before marrying Harold Schmidt on May 31, 1947 at St. Andrew Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on November 8, 2009 after 62 years of marriage. She had been a member of TOPS since 1955, Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus Post #4232, Auxiliary Club of American Legion Post #439, and Saginaw Timbertown Dollology Club. She was also a charter member of St. Stephen Parish, past president of St. Stephen Altar Society, a volunteer at Bethesda Thrift Shop and participated in Girl Scouts with her daughters for 11 years and in many craft bazaars for 20 years. Surviving are four children: John (Pam) Schmidt of Frankenmuth, Mary Schmidt of Davison, Jo (Gary) Brownrigg of Freeland, and Cindy (Tim) Greetis of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Sika, of Saginaw. FUNERAL - Mildred's Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m., Monday December 31, 2012 at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1310 Malzahn. Rev. Fr. William R. Taylor will officiate with burial in St. Andrew Cemetery. VISITATION - Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State) on Sunday, December 30, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Mildred will lie in state at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Dearest cousins, John, Mary, Jo and Cindy,
My emotions are mixed at the passing of your mother, my wonderful Aunt Mildred. I am so happy for her reunion with your dad, my mom and dad and many others who passed before her. Sad that I won't see her again.
I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your parents with me and my family. In many ways they taught me how to be an adult as my parents died before I became one. They taught us the value of forgiveness, acceptance, compassion, giving, unconditional love and, most importantly, faith. They lived it authentically. Their lives embodied these traits and were sincere examples to all who had the priviledge to know them. I pray others, especially my children, will see those characteristics in me as I strive to embrace them in my life and keep them in the memories I hold dear in my heart.
Please never forget how appreciative I am of these gifts they gave me and my family.
